My first degree was in Human Sciences, a multidisciplinary degree at University College London, for which I studied courses in anatomy, anthropology, biochemistry, genetics, geography, history of science, history of medicine, pharmacology, philosophy of science, physiology, psychology and statistics.

I followed this with an MSc in History and Philosophy of Science, at the London Centre for the History of Science, Medicine and Technology, which combines the resources of Imperial College, University College and the Wellcome Institute. As I studied at Imperial I also have a DIC. A Diploma of Imperial College, that is.

I returned to UCL to study for a PhD in the Department of History, Philosophy & Communication of Science (now known as the department of Science and Technology Studies). My PhD, Towards a Scientific Conception of Free Will, was supervised by Nicholas Maxwell and examined by Ted Honderich and Jennifer Trusted.

My current research interests include:

  • How scientific research can help to solve philosophical problems
  • The misrepresentation of science by the media and political organisations
  • Free will
  • Consciousness
